Breaking Barriers as Women in Leadership: Here’s How Our CCWomen Community Does It
In customer contact, tech, and beyond, women in leadership continue to bring more chairs to the table, redefining what it looks like to trailblaze and transform. While we wholly recognize their obstacles, we also want to spotlight their achievements and celebrate how far they’ve come.
Every woman leader has a story to tell. Her hardships and life lessons have molded her into who she is today. Her resilience comes from the moments she learned how to persevere; her confidence is built by her inner-growth and support system.
From boardrooms to contact centers to male-dominated spaces, our CCWomen members share their career journeys with confidence and wisdom. Here, we highlight a few of our women leaders making their mark.
1. Petra Seals, Managing Principal Solutions at the Northridge Group
“Having a linear path to leadership within your career isn't crucial. I found that I have learned the most valuable lessons by deviating from the conventional path and by embracing lateral moves that taught me a specific skill set that I didn’t yet have.
These detours in my career have enabled me to identify leadership roles that are truly fulfilling, rather than merely aiming for the quickest ascent up the ladder, which may not ultimately have been as satisfying.”
2. Jule Doran Salem, Managing Director at Salem Solutions
“First starting out in my career, I was laser-focused on getting to the next rung on the ladder and, in some cases, even changing companies to further my growth trajectory. Looking back, I would tell my younger self to be more patient and take advantage of all that can be gained in a current role.
Over the years, I’ve found that volunteering to take on other projects and offering to be of help to others has proven to be an invaluable way to learn new things and expand my area of expertise.”
3. Faithe Toomy, Senior Manager, Quality and Customer Experience at Insulet Corporation
“At 18, I entered the Contact Center world, not knowing what the future would hold. What I did know, I wanted to help people. I always tried to make it easier for loved ones and friends to live life, and I wanted to do that for others. I had a knack for building things, a vision that would carry me to where I am today.
Throughout my career, I faced adversity. Male managers who didn’t believe I was capable. Female managers who wanted to be in the spotlight versus helping their direct reports grow. The adversity I truly needed to break through was the world I created for myself. It was the disbelief I carried of how capable I AM. It was the obstacles I faced, thinking I needed someone else to help me grow and achieve greatness.
If I could share a piece, or maybe two, of advice to the women striving for more….Be unapologetically you. Be authentic. Love yourself, even on tough days. Believe in yourself. 'Believe in your capacity to do good and great things. Believe that no mountain is so high that you cannot climb it. Believe that no storm is so great that you cannot weather it.' Believe in yourself so much that when you look in the mirror every morning and say, I love you, you believe it.
I do what I do today because I love seeing how happy it makes others. I love it even more because I am happy with my work. Looking back 20+ years ago, I’m right where I knew I would be—helping people by making their lives easier. The title doesn’t matter. What matters is extending a hand to share knowledge, offering support, building up others around you, and, most importantly, believing in yourself.”
