5 DEIA Leaders Paving the Way for an Inclusive Future

Written by Shiwon Oh | Jul 10, 2024 6:32:00 PM

DEIA continues to be a rising trend and expectation for businesses everywhere. Like other popular movements, the framework requires thought leaders of all backgrounds to break down barriers and foster transformation—one initiative at a time. More than ever, it’s time to recognize those who dedicate their lives to educating and championing others.

Here, we highlight several luminaries known for their unique contributions and impact on their communities and beyond. Through policy change and perspective shift, they actively reshape the corporate world as we know it, making the future fairer and more equitable.

1. Debra Ruh (she/her)

Debra Ruh began her entrepreneurial journey when a doctor told her that her daughter, Sara, would never talk or walk due to her Down Syndrome. Ruh believed otherwise and set out to prove that Sara, along with all people with disabilities, was capable of so much more than societal assumptions.

Now known as a Global Disability Inclusion Strategy and keynote speaker, Ruh continues to make an impact by advising various Fortune 100 companies and countries to prioritize disability inclusion in their DEIA work.

2. Lily Zheng (they/them)

Bestselling author, DEI strategist, and LinkedIn Top Voice Lily Zheng is a seasoned professional who guides organizations toward true equity. They break DEI down to its very DNA, address existing issues that prevent companies from making progress, and then provide solutions powered by data and research.

Zheng emphasizes the need to self-reflect in the present to pave a better future, challenging their audience to view DEI advocacy as an internal and external transformation. After all, we should be the change we want to see within our lifetimes.

3. Max Siegel (they/he)

Max Siegel strives to dismantle harmful LGBTQIA+ misrepresentation through vulnerable storytelling. As a content creator and speaker, he travels the globe to share his personal experiences and best practices that can help companies empower their LGBTQIA+ employees.

Siegel also offers other speaking topics, including LGBTQIA+ awareness and education, gender equity, authentic leadership, and neurodiversity. Drawing pivotal points from his personal life and professional expertise, he continues to open doors to honest conversations that allow people to learn, reflect, and improve.

4. Ruchika Tulshyan (she/her)

Workplace belonging is essential to a thriving business, but it takes work to foster a culture where everyone feels welcome. Bestselling author, founder, and LinkedIn course facilitator Ruchika Tulshyan provides multiple touchpoints for her audience to learn about inclusion and implement it into their day-to-day lives, whether through a dynamic speaking session or her online course.

Tulshyan also spotlights other women by writing about relevant topics like imposter syndrome and investing in women-founded ventures to uplift up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

5. Theresa Watts (she/her)

Theresa Watts is Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at True Religion Brand Jeans and a renowned keynote speaker. Confident and passionate, she empowers women to own their voices and self-advocate to the fullest, especially when there’s a lack of allyship and support.

Watts has spoken for numerous events, from powerfully honest webinars to confidence-building workshops. She emphasizes the importance of telling our stories, as there are always ears ready to listen—and countless women prepared to link arms and shatter the glass ceiling together.
