How Our CCWomen+ Community Celebrates Women’s History Month

We hold a CCWomen+ virtual meetup every few weeks to spend time with our paid member community and exchange valuable insights. In light of Women's History Month, our founder, Sandy Ko Fonseca, asked people to share how different companies planned to uplift their women employees.

Women's empowerment is a must, but it can only come to fruition if we collectively work to make space for others and advocate for meaningful change. Together, our voices become impossible to ignore, disrupting the status quo and creating a more inclusive future for all.

Here are a few ways our CCWomen+ members celebrate themselves within their organizations.

1. Provide engaging networking opportunities.

For some, fostering authentic connections in the workplace can be daunting. You have to actively engage with colleagues and find commonalities that bridge you together. So, whenever possible, it can be helpful for businesses to nurture spaces where relationship-building feels more organic.

Weiping Wang, Senior Manager of Technical Support at Illumina, stated that her company's employee resource group (ERG) planned to do just that. Along with an in-office networking event to help employees expand their circles, they also prepared a panel discussion to ensure that the organization heard women's concerns and valued everyone's perspectives.

2. Facilitate community-building activities.

Community-building activities bring a splash of fun and levity into the workday, but they're also an effective way to contribute to a more open company culture. Faithe Toomy, Director, Customer Care Quality Assurance and Customer Experience, shared how Insulet pushed "Invest in Women" as its theme for the year to emphasize the importance of supporting women's growth and success.

To raise awareness of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, the company's Women@Insulet Network (WIN) employee resource group invited employees to join its March celebration. WIN prepared two trivia games and shared several Zoom backgrounds its employees could use to boost visibility. The team also honored women's many contributions to our world and culture. With community-centric activities and simple, accessible resources, Toomy's organization encouraged lighthearted camaraderie while wholly celebrating women's achievements.

3. Create space for open dialogue.

Rebecca Jones, President of Mosaicx, explained how her organization hosted a multi-generational leadership panel to welcome diverse and inclusive voices. It demonstrates that, regardless of age, title, or background, we can still learn from and highlight each other's progress . Martha Sager, Vice President of Business Development in North America and Europe, added that Uniphore also planned an event where employees could gather and share their honest experiences pursuing gender equality.

As women, we're all too familiar with not getting a seat at the table. And when we do, we sometimes feel silenced, our ideas and opinions drowned out by various societal barriers. Women's History Month reminds us why we must challenge the status quo and continue creating opportunities for impactful dialogue. The more we share our thoughts, the closer we get to driving collective change.

4. Share women’s stories.

Storytelling is vital for keeping our narratives at the forefront. It's how we show the world that we don't belong in a box—becoming a mother doesn't automatically disqualify us as a career woman, and being assertive in the boardroom doesn't mean we're incapable of being gentle.

In the same vein, Northridge Group spotlighted a few of its employees to demonstrate their resilience. Despite coming from different backgrounds, each woman proved that, while sharing a unified grit and confidence, they also carry multifaceted stories.
